Start your journey into the field of Therapeutic Horticulture with this introductory workshop.

This is a general course suited to anyone wanting to work or volunteer in mental health, ageing & dementia, rehabilitation, disability or community gardens. Theory, research and practical components feature throughout the day so you can tailor examples to your specific area of interest. Each participant receives a take home resource manual.

Topics will include:
• Introduction to therapeutic horticulture and supporting research
• Purpose, setting & focus of a gardening program
• Selecting appropriate activities
• Setting client goals
• Using adaptive tools
• Reporting and recording
• Risk assessment & WHS
• Fundraising and sustainability of a program
• Practical simulated group activities

Please note that spaces are limited to maximise the learning experience. Once sold out a waiting list will become available.

About the facilitators:

Jacquie Dredge
is Co-Founder and Director of Panania Free Rangers, a not for profit organisation run by volunteers that has worked with several local councils as well as other community organisations and stakeholders. What started out as outreach to isolated elderly people is now running kindness gardening, sustainability programs in schools and Peaceful Planting - a drop-in meditation and seeding program. Jacquie has a background in social and community services working in child care, aged and disability care. Jaq has always been a gardener and tried to sneak gardening activities into every role she's had!

Sharon Moore-Lambert loves swimming, reading and of course gardening. She runs a small business called Cultivating Hope where she works one on one with people who share a passion for gardening and nature but find it challenging to do on their own due to disabilities. Sharon works in the aged care and disability sectors in the Sutherland Shire.
